Have you come across those Pinterest worthy fruit bowls? You know, the ones that went viral and still have yet to let up. Well, those deliciously crafted viral fruit bowls are called acai bowls. Acai bowls are easily the world’s best healthy breakfast. They may look like ice cream, taste like ice cream but it isn’t ice cream.
These delicious treats get their nutritional benefits from acai berries. Research has shown these antioxidant-rich berries are beneficial to you in numerous ways such as aid heart health, promote skin health, aid weight loss, boost energy, and more.
After DIY-ing my own acai bowl, I certainly had to share my recipe with you guys. I mean c’mon, you’d be a fool if you didn’t try it once! Since I know time is money in 2017, I modified the recipe to make it easy for you to whip together in five minutes, yes you read it right five minutes.
Acai Bowl Recipe:
Makes 1-2 servings
1 cup frozen assorted berries (I used blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries)
1 frozen banana
2 tablespoons acai powder
1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or milk of choice)
1 tablespoon nut or seed butter (I used peanut)
1/2 tablespoon honey, to taste
Fresh fruit, sliced
Add frozen fruit, acai powder, half almond milk, nut butter, and honey to blender. Blend until creamy smooth, adding extra almond milk as needed to get blender running. Aim for a frozen-yogurt consistency (it shouldn’t be thicker than a smoothie)
Once done, add acai mixture into a bowl(s) and top with choice of sliced fruit, oats and granola (optional).
Eat until bowl is clean 🙂
An acai bowl is great for breakfast, brunch or anytime you need a sweet treat. The health benefits that come from acai berries makes for a guiltless treat any time of the day. I hope this inspires you to try one for yourself whether DIY or bought from a juice bar, I promise you won’t regret it! And don’t forget to follow me on Bloglovin’ to stay up to date on weekly posts.
